Ty's involvement with horses has followed many different avenues.
Working on some of Queensland's larger Cattle Stations as a teenager
to breaking and training horses, then giving lessons to help people
identify the problems they are having and educating both horse
and rider. Ty has competed successfully over the years in rodeos,
campdrafts, team penning and team roping competitions. Enjoying
each aspect of the different codes.
On several
occasions, Pine Rivers Shire Council has invited Ty to lecture Council
Animal Management Officers from all Shires on the Eastern Coast
of Australia in Horsemanship and Horse Behavioural Management as
well as Canine Behaviour and Capture Techniques. He has also instructed
at Team Penning Clinics.
Ty has
also been in the limelight on numerous occasions. He was part of
the Quadrille Team for the "Outback Thunder" show performed
in the Main Arena at the Ekka and the Royal Melbourne Show. He performed
at Brisbane and Melbourne's Equitana, with the "Boys from the
Bush" Routine and the Quadrille in the "Mane Event".
All performances were spectacular and well received by the thousands
who watched them.
In February
of 2005, Ty was recommendedby a fellow Saddler to create and make
a replica of an 1880's, A fork style western saddle for the American
Movie "Ghost Rider" . This movie was filmed in Melbourne
and duefor release in 2006. Ty was flown down by the production
company to fit th e horse and the rider, none other than famous American
actor Sam Elliot, well know for numerous cowboy roles, one of them
being Tombstone with Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer.
Ty's
wife, Caron, has also had a long association with horses. Born in
Canada where she attended a riding school at the Toronto Mounted
Police Headquarters, Caron moved to Australia in 1974. Then at the
age of 11 got her first horse for Christmas and joined the local
Pony Club. Caron changed codes at 14 and moved into the western
show ring when her family purchased their first Quarter Horse colt.
Youth Showmanship and Halter classes soon made way to ridden classes
and in 1980 Caron was awarded High Point Youth of WAQHA and Youth
of the Year for AQHA.
Always
loving a faster pace, Caron also competed in Rodeos and Girls Western
Association (GWA) which supported 5 events (barrel racing, pole
bending, goat tying, steer undecorating and breakaway roping). In
consecutive years, 1980 and 1981, Caron was awarded GWA All Round
Cowgirl.
Caron
then attended Muresk Agricultural College, completing a 2 year Associate
Diploma in Equine Stud Management. Then in 1984 heading East to
compete in the Miss Rodeo Australia quest, Caron was crowned Miss
Rodeo Appearance and met the man of her dreams.
Ty and
Caron competed in rodeos for a few more years and in 1992 settled down
to build their home and have a couple of children, Cody born in 1995
and Ellie in 1997.
Ty
learned the craft of Saddle Making from Master Saddle Maker Geoff
Hutson and in 1988 started building saddles for himself. Ty's attention
to detail, knowledge and love of the craft has made him the Saddler
he is today. By speaking with people in the horse industry, Ty is
up to date on what the modern day rider and his horse is looking
for to reach the maximum performance level.
Together
with his wife, Caron, the combination provides a complete understanding
of what their clients need. A custom made saddle to fit them, their
horse and their budget.
Ty and
Caron, with Cody and Ellie in tow, look forward to seeing you at shows and competitions this year. If you
are in the market for any custom made gear for shows or work or
just need some information please feel free to call and have a chat,
they'd love to hear from you. |
